I would give anything to be able to express myself in writing as you do. What a gift you have. I hope using your gift leads to healing your brokenness. I just returned from Italy with my brother and two sister-in-laws. It was a wonderful time to reflect on the history of our church and how man's belief and faith in God has pushed us to build unbelieveably beautiful cathedrals in His honor. But as I read how so many have been destroyed during war, by fire and floods, etc., I wondered how one could continue to rebuild them with even greater beauty than before. Often the original builders never saw the finished cathedral. Faith can lead us to do amazing things, whether it's rebuilding cathedrals or rebuilding our brokenness. All good things come from Our Father; let us continue to believe that He will heal our brokenness. The best context for understanding it, to me, is John 14 – “Let not your hearts be troubled; trust in God, trust also in Me.” So Christ's invitation is to walk with Him in trust, rather than being owned by fear (or our own impoverished understanding).

You wrote an excellent piece.

God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform;
He plants His footsteps in the sea, and rides upon the storm.
Deep in His dark and hidden mines, with never-failing skill,
He fashions all His bright designs, and works His sovereign will.

So God, we trust in You.
O God, we trust in You.
When tears are great, and comforts few,
We hope in mercies ever new:
We trust in You.

Oh fearful saints, new courage take; the clouds that you now dread
Are big with mercy and will break in blessings on your head.
Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, but trust Him for His grace;
Behind a “frowning” providence we find His smiling face.

God’s purposes will ripen fast, unfolding every hour;
The bud may have a bitter taste, but sweet will be the flower.
Blind unbelief is sure to err, and scan His work in vain;
God is His own interpreter, and He will make it plain.

Hymn text by William Cowper, 1774. In all these dreams, they are as they had been years before, not feeble or confused or helpless as they were in their final years. After my sister died 48 years ago, I dreamed that she was miraculously alive! In my dream, she and her best friend, another 17-year-old I knew well, had swapped identities, and it was her friend, not my sister, who had died in that automobile accident. Our subconscious keeps alive those we love.Erstwhile Editorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13005944796124688332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2732814829542226261.post-58170447263245885552010-12-26T15:24:53.034-05:002010-12-26T15:24:53.034-05:00what a beautiful post. It took me a long time to appreciate the concept, first as a Presbyterian and then as a Lutheran, of infant baptism. I've learned that baptism is not our action; it is God's action. While we were yet sinners, Jesus died for us. "oh, the gates are wide on the other side/just beyond the sunset scene./there'll be room to spare when we enter there/room for you, and room for me..." (a song sung by iris dement) when someone has a near-death experience, it challenges the fragility of our own faith. a dying dominican friar some years ago, just days before his death, said "now i get to see whether we've been right." perhaps depression is the paralysis that comes from knowing we really don't know, irrespective of our faith, and mania is the conviction that we do. sanity, of course, lies somewhere in between, both on the way up and on the way down.

thanks, ann. you write so beautifully, like an almost transparent length of glittering indian silk.peter lynchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17403197077234774991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2732814829542226261.post-40075635950622548882010-11-10T12:55:51.812-05:002010-11-10T12:55:51.812-05:00Thanks, for this, Ann.
